The Gin Joint Presents 'Swinging Women'

The Gin Joint is very excited to welcome back Patty Lee and band with 'Swingin' Women'!

Ms Lee and band bring selected songs from an era dominated by singers such a Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan.

Added to that will be some of Carmen Mcrae’s interpretations of Thelonius Monk tunes. Monk and Mcrae used to live in the same apartment block in New York during the Bebop era. Carmen Mcrae was often watching while Monk created masterpieces, such as `Well you needn’t: It’s over now’.

Carmen’s lyrics are as wry as a Manhattan pastrami sandwich. And if you think Basie swings check out Carmen Mcrae’s quartets’ which heavily rely on double bass for walking and blowing. Many folks will be familiar with Patty’s big golden tenor sax like voice: get ready, here it comes.
